Questions, answered clearly

Before you visit, know what to expect.

Eye care can feel confusing. These simple answers cover common questions about check-ups, surgery, lenses and recovery.

What happens during a complete eye check-up?

We begin with your symptoms and vision history, then assess visual acuity, eye pressure and the health of the front and back of the eye. Your specialist explains the findings and suggests the next step in plain language.

When should I consider a cataract consultation?

If blurred vision, glare, faded colours or difficulty with night driving is affecting everyday life, a consultation can help. The specialist checks the natural lens and discusses whether monitoring, glasses or an intraocular lens procedure is appropriate.

Where is an IOL or artificial lens placed?

During cataract surgery, the cloudy natural lens is removed and a clear intraocular lens is placed inside the eye, usually in the natural lens capsule behind the iris and pupil. Your surgeon selects the lens based on your eye measurements and visual goals.

What is the difference between LASIK and ICL?

LASIK reshapes the cornea with a laser. ICL is a phakic lens placed inside the eye while the natural lens remains in place. A specialist examination is needed to understand which option, if any, is suitable.

How often should children and adults have an eye examination?

It depends on age, symptoms, family history and existing conditions. Regular examinations help identify changes early, especially for children, people with diabetes and anyone with a family history of glaucoma or retinal disease.

Can I use this information to diagnose an eye problem?

No. This page is educational only. New flashes, sudden floaters, sudden vision loss, severe pain or an eye injury need prompt professional medical attention.

Interactive eye anatomy

Understand the eye, one structure at a time.

Move your cursor over a numbered point or tap it on mobile. The panel explains what that structure does, how it supports vision and where an IOL is placed during cataract surgery.

01 · Front surface

Cornea

The clear, dome-shaped front surface of the eye. It bends incoming light and provides much of the eye’s focusing power before light reaches the lens.

What it doesProtects the eye and begins focusing light.
Why it mattersChanges to the cornea can affect sharpness, glare and comfort.
Care connectionLASIK reshapes the cornea; glasses and contact lenses help redirect light before it enters the eye.

This interactive guide is for general education, not diagnosis. A qualified ophthalmologist should interpret your eye examination.
