Common Eye conditions needing Oculoplasty
- Watering of Eyes– Blockage of the duct from the eyes to nose commonly causes persistent watering and discharge. This can occur from birth in babies due to incomplete development of the Nasolacrimal duct or in adults due to chronic infections. Syringing and Probing is done to diagnose the level of blockage. If not relieved by medicines and conservative measures, DCR( Dacryocystorhinostomy) surgery maybe required. We offer the latest Laser/ Endonasal DCR which avoids any external scar.
- Droopy Eyes/ Ptosis– One or both upper eyelids maybe droopy and cause asymmetric appearance of the eyes. The droopy eye looks smaller than the normal eye and if severe it can affect the vision. This can be congenital in babies or occur later in adults due to nerve or muscle weakness. Treatment is advised if it affects vision or due to cosmetic reasons. At VPEC our doctors are experts in all types of Ptosis surgery done for mild to severe cases like LPS resection or Frontalis sling.
- Blepharoplasty– With age the skin and tissues around the eye become lax and loose. The excess skin or bulging fat and eyebags disfigures the face and person looks aged. This can be corrected by surgery, Dermal fillers to give a youthful rejuvenated appearance.
- Chalazion– This is a very common condition causing a lump or mass on the eyelid. It is usually painless and is due to infection of the eye glands. If it does not resolve with medicines, minor surgery is required to remove it. Recurrent chalazia can be due to Diabetes, blepharitis or dandruff.
- Artificial Eye or Prosthetic implant– If the eyeball is damaged or injured beyond repair then it may require removal and replacement with a customised artificial shell or implant. We have a team of the Oculoplasty surgeon and Ocularist who strive to give the best cosmetic results.
